Hello!
I’m Darren. A Sustainable Architect.
I began my career immersed in arts, music, and film in London and New York. As a producer, I won the prestigious TMA award for my collaborative production with the Young Vic Theatre Company of “Arabian Nights,” directed by Dominic Cooke. After a national tour of the UK and the Edinburgh Festival, the production transferred to Broadway in New York City.
After moving to Miami, I honed my focus on architecture, sustainability, and education. I hold a Master of Architecture from Florida International University (FIU), where I was recognized with the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Bronze Medal. My time at FIU also included involvement with the MBUS LEADS program under the mentorship of Chad Oppenheim and participation in the Graduate Academy of Leaders. I held a significant research role with the FIU CRUNCH team, a six-country $1.9M National Science Foundation (NSF) funded program investigating the impact of sea-level rise on the built environment. I have worked at several architecture firms in Miami, including sustainability and resiliency-focused companies.
My professional credentials include LEED AP (BD+C) & (HOMES), WELL AP, LFA, and BREEAM Associate. I’ve had the opportunity to share my insights on architecture and climate change as a speaker at various events and through publications. In 2020, I chaired the Miami Shores Sustainability and Resiliency Committee.
I am now based in Costa Rica, continuing my work and exploration in the field, and a candidate for a Doctor of Design researching architecture and sea level rise.
